🎉 My Top 5 Book Picks of 2019! 🎉

This year has been full of amazing new book releases, though my top five might not be released in 2019, they were new to me this year. It felt like choosing a favourite child to narrow it down to just 5 but I managed…

  1. Beard Science – Penny Reid
  2. The Hating Game – Sally Thorne
  3. Pucked – Helena Hunting
  4. The Simple Wild – KA Tucker
  5. Bringing Down the Duke – Evie Dunmore

What were your favourites this year??

The Happy Ever After Playlist by Abby Jimenez

The Happy Ever After Playlist by @authorabbyjimenez 🎶 9/10

This story was so sweet!! It was such a funny and easy read, Abby’s characters are always so charming and relatable. Abby’s writing is like reading texts from a best friend, her stories are always laugh out loud funny but can also touch on emotional topics without going overboard. After reading the Friend Zone, Sloan’s story of losing her fiancĂŠ really stuck with me, and I immediately felt like she deserves a happy ending. So when I found out the next book was giving Sloan her shot at love I was all in. In the Happy Ever After Playlist we get to know Sloan and see her finally get back out there, finding herself again. After a chance encounter rescuing a doggo named Tucker and eventually meeting his handsome owner Jason, who seems to be a notorious flirt.

Now the question is will Jason (a famous musician) stick around for good or will Sloan have to deal with losing another love?

I loved all the flirty banter from Jason, their sexy chemistry was fun to read from the beginning. FYI some absolute gem out there created the playlist (each chapter has a song) on Spotify so you can listen to the songs as you read! https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1tsC0rNPk4Q4lymo4ek83S?si=TFq3F28NQyKv3OhK3vjfhg

My Goodreads Reading Challenge 2019

This is my first year participating in the Goodreads Reading Challenge. I gave myself an insane (to me) goal of 50 books to read in 2019. Bear in mind I read a total of 2 books in 2018…

I didn’t start reading until halfway through February so I was really starting from behind with this one, but I challenged myself to simply see what I can do, with no real pressure.

I’m so proud to have reached my goal early and finished 50 books. Now I’m going for 2 more books before the end of the year just to make it an even book a week. Woohoo!

Have you participated in the Goodreads challenge before? What was your experience with having a reading goal, did it add to your reading enjoyment or take away from it?

Dr.Strange Beard 🐾 by Penny Reid

Dr.Strange Beard by Penny Reid, the Winston Brothers series book 5. 🐾

When I found out this book jumps ahead 5 years from book 4 I realized how invested I am in the Winston Brothers. I was genuinely distraught.. BROTHER A GOT MARRIED?!? BROTHER B HAS KIDS NOW?? BROTHER C IS WITH SOMEONE NEW?! WTH! I felt like I missed out on these moments with them, which is when I had to remind myself that they’re fictional characters…

ANYWAY this is Roscoe’s story, the youngest Winston who was raised by his mama and his brothers, has an eidetic memory and is a veterinarian (instant swoon). He’s only ever had eyes for his childhood friend Simone, who told him she’d never love him back, and thanks to his crazy good memory relives the moment over and over again.

Simone is back in her hometown as an undercover agent and her assignment is to get close to Roscoe again. I liked how different this one was from the other books in the series, each brother is an independent character with their own uniqueness which makes every story interesting to read. Plus a childhood romance is always a winner in my book.

But Cletus is still my favourite lol. I’m giving this one a 8/10 🐶

A Well Red Stack

Yesterday was one of those days where I was reminded how wonderful this time of year can be, and that it is also the time to give to those in need!

@careylovestobook is donating $1 for every red and white stack posted with the tag #wellredkids up to $1000!! All the funds will be going to the Toys for Tots Literacy program. Such a wonderful act of kindness, thank you @careylovestobook!

And a big thank you to the sweet lady that always serves me my steeped tea at Tim Horton’s, who gave me the mug in this photo as an early Christmas gift for being a “regular”. I’ve always wanted to be a regular somewhere!! Who would’ve thought it’d be at Timmy’s haha #notashamed

I will definitely be paying forward these acts of kindness and donating to my local food bank, that is especially busy this time of year.

Happy Holidays book friends!! 📚🌲❄️

Beard In Mind by Penny Reid

Yesterday was #booksharksHollyDays challenge Day 4! Share what your #currentlyreading next to pretty wrapped presents 🎁

Not sure how pretty my wrapping job is, but I’m almost finished Beard In Mind by @reidromance and thought I’d share ☺️

I can’t express enough how happy this series makes me. I wasn’t aware I needed these Winston Brothers until now.

This one follows Beau the delightfully charming and kind to a fault, red-headed twin of Duane from book 1. I liked the overlap between this book and the last (Cletus’ story) as we get to see both sides. Seeing Beau start to understand Shelly not as the ice woman she seems, but for the complex and beautiful person who is trying to work through her struggles with her mental health. Shelly’s OCD is a big part of the story and was so interesting to learn more about. I liked that Beau wasn’t necessarily trying to “save her” but was just there for her, loving her for who she is and appreciating her skills and what makes her special.

I really enjoyed this one, and I’m giving it an 8/10. But Cletus is still my favourite.

The Bromance Book Club 💕 by Lyssa Kay Adams

The Bromance Book Club by @lyssakayadams was definitely a #bookstagrammademedoit but I’m not mad about it 💕 8/10

I love how original this story was. Following Thea and Gavin as they work on their troubled marriage. It was funny, forward thinking and touched on some important issues like toxic masculinity, the orgasm gap, etc. It did seem to portray everything as Gavin’s fault throughout but I liked that the conclusion delves into this. Thea lost herself and at the same time didn’t express to her husband that she was unsatisfied in bed and in life. He definitely should have noticed and made her happiness a priority but I think it takes two to communicate!

This book was a breath of fresh air, heartwarming and funny. I loved the guys in the book club, and the parts from the book their reading. Mack is the man!! I thought it was really well written and would definitely recommend it! Have you read this one?

I’ve recently seen some sneak previews of Lyssa Kay Adams next instalment for this series, called Undercover Bromance and it follows Mack (YAASS) as he tries to warm the icy exterior of Thea’s sister Liv! It sounds like a perfect match 🙂

Beard Science by Penny Reid

Beard Science by @reidromance 9.8/10 🍌

NEW FAVOURITE BOOK ALERT!!!

Okay, this book!!! Cletus is my favourite Winston Brother and I was dying to read his story. This was, in my opinion, a perfect romance novel. I absolutely loved this book and finished it in a day. This series is so funny and heartwarming and the characters are insanely lovable. This was definitely the best of the series (that I’ve read) so far.

Cletus is hysterical, brilliant and sneaky with a penchant for scheming. Jennifer has only ever been known in their small town as the Banana Cake Queen 🍌 a simpleton who does whatever her Mama tells her. Cletus thought he knew everything about everyone and nothing ever surprised him, until Jennifer had a plan of her own that forced Cletus to really see her.

Jennifer is the coolest! You root for her to find her courage and stand up for herself the whole way through and Cletus helping her do that without doing it for her was so satisfying. I seriously love when the characters don’t realize they’re falling for each other, sometimes it’s a bit over the top, but Cletus’ sudden realization was awesome. I’m hooked on this series!

Pucked Off 🏒 by Helena Hunting

Baby it’s cold outside ❄️ but it’s getting hot in here 😏🔥

Pucked Off by @helenahunting 9/10

This series is one of my favourites and was my intro to Helena Hunting. The other books in the series are equal parts hilarious and steamy, whereas this book had so much more depth. Who knew Lance’s story was missing from my life! He seemed like such an impersonal character in the other books and now we learn why…

Lance’s past abuse and trauma haunts him and his relationships creating the masochistic lothario who never lets anyone in, until he meets Poppy.

I loved seeing Lance become a better person and open up to Poppy, and the childhood crush trope makes an appearance which is one of my go to’s. This had such a change of pace from the rest of the series but ultimately might be one of the best Pucked in the bunch.
