Don’t You Forget About Me by Mhairi McFarlane

Don’t You Forget About Me by Mhairi McFarlane 💕

.

Georgina fell in love with Lucas at 18 and after a high school dance never saw him again. Now at 30, she’s just been fired from her awful job and walked in on her boyfriend cheating on her. She’s soon working at a bar in Sheffield and Lucas turns out to be her new boss! Thing is, the love of her life doesn’t remember her at all…

.

Such a palette cleanser, I finished this book in 1 day, and it’s been a while since I’ve done that! Mhairi’s Scottish humour is hysterical all the way through. I absolutely loved Georgina’s emotional transformation and all the secondary characters throughout. You end up truly despising the ex boyfriend and a few others, that I was actually getting angry reading certain parts. There is such a build up in this one and the story of Lucas and Georgina is pretty romantic. I just wish there was more scenes of them together. Still this was such a feel good story, I’m giving this one 8.5/10 ⭐️

The Right Swipe By Alisha Rai

➡️ The Right Swipe ➡️ by @alisharaiwrites

Rhiannon is a driven, focused owner of thriving dating-app Crush. She has her sights on taking over her competitor Matchmaker. That is until she bumps into the guy that ghosted her months earlier, Samson, the new face of Matchmaker. Reuniting with her ghoster for purely physical reasons is one thing, but Rhi won’t put herself out there again, at least that’s what she’s telling herself…

It’s not this book’s fault, but this took me far too long to finish. Once I finally got into it I liked it! From the writing style, to the characters, the themes, the important issues it tackled including repeated concussions/CTE brain injuries, social anxiety and harassment. Even the sensual scenes were done so well, no cringeyness here. I just wish there was a bit more time spent on Rhi and Samson together. I’m giving this one a 7.5/10 💕👆

Josh & Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating by Christina Lauren

Josh & Hazel’s Guide To Not Dating by @christinalauren ❤️🧡💛

Hazel has idolized Josh since her college days. She sees him as the perfect person, so unlike her weird embarrassing self, after a chance reunion years later she’s determined to be his best friend. Deciding to be each other’s wingman they go on a series of blind double dates, until somewhere along the line they start to wish they were only out with each other.

My final book of July and another amazing Christina Lauren, literally every book of theirs has me rethinking my top 5. They are my absolute favourite! I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to get to Josh and Hazel. Hazel is so wonderfully weird, I love that the moral of the story is simply to be yourself. 9/10 ⭐️

The Friend Zone by Abby Jimenez

The Friend Zone by Abby Jimenez

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ You guys, this book. This was such a great read, it had everything from laughs to tears, some sexy encounters, missed connections, friends with benefits, the movie references, it was amazing. From the title I wasn’t expecting more than a light read but it ended up being so heartfelt, touching on some tough issues and had me balling at one point.

I wasn’t sure about Kristen’s sassiness at first, but quickly came around when I realized how funny and bold she is. Josh was such a sweet guy who was able to roll with all of her punches. Without giving away the important bits, I can’t stop thinking about the heartbreaking chapter days after reading. It makes you realize how important it is to be honest with yourself and shows how trivial things like being in “The Friend Zone” really are.

I can’t recommend this one enough, a romantic reader’s dream. 10/10

Two Romances One Theme

DARE TO COMPARE

Two slow burn romances about childhood crushes turned into adult romances, all while fixing up a house? Two different stories.

I am one of those people that actually really enjoyed 99 Percent Mine and while recently reading Fix Her Up I kept finding little connections between the plot lines of these two books.

From the tenacious female lead that is seen as a “joke”, to the kind hearted males that start to see them differently. Both of the male leads are the brother’s best friend, making the female leads the annoying younger sisters not taken seriously.

They are both reunited after years spent apart growing into their own, and are forced into a situation where they are repairing a home, or working on themselves.

I love this romance theme of childhood crush reuniting as adults, and the fixing up a house setting, it obviously reflects the characters building up their connection together and resolving past situations.

Did anyone else find these two stories similar?

Forever Pucked by Helena Hunting

Forever Pucked by Helena Hunting💄

I needed to take a mini break from the sadness that is All Your Perfects, and what better way to find all the lols than a Helena Hunting Classic. This one picks back up with Alex Waters and Violet now that they’re engaged and it’s instantly back to the hilarious and sexy storytelling I came to love in the first book. Including the beav and the Super MC.

Violet is freaking out over setting a date for the wedding, every time it’s brought up she breaks out in hives. But after a terrifying accident on the ice she starts to realize that time with Alex is precious and he’s everything she could ever want and more. They finally tie the knot in the most Violet way possible, complete with costumes and vulgarity.

I love the way every couple chapters are told from Alex’s point of view. Because Violet is such a strange person she always sees herself one way almost judging herself, then reading from Alex’s view and how much he loves her weird quirks and Violet-isms is a nice romantic touch in an otherwise hilarious / raunchy story.

Forever Pucked lives up to the steam factor from the original Pucked, with some extra sensual scenes, but this story still has a substantial plot and characters you care about, which is the perfect combo. It has the right amount of cheese, humour, and sexiness and what more could you possibly ask for in a romantic comedy?

The Flatshare by Beth O’Leary

The Flatshare by Beth O’Leary 🛏

Tiffy and Leon are sharing an apartment. In fact, they’re sharing a bed. Tiffy and Leon will never meet because of their opposite schedules, it’s the perfect plan.

This book is FANTASTIC!! Completely amazing, I wish I could read it for the first time all over again. It was so witty and charming with a truly unique romance storyline, which is hard to come by. The characters were weird and lovable, from Tiffy’s eclectic fashion sense, to Leon’s social anxiety. The secondary characters include Tiffy’s best friends that start to feel like your besties, and Leon’s patients at the hospice that are, again, so endearing these additional plot lines really add to the story.

At the same time, the story touches on some heavier aspects including abusive relationships, wrongful convictions, and hospice.

This book had me laughing out loud the whole way through. Those Brit’s really have a great sense of humour. I could not recommend this book more. Do yourself a favour and read this beautiful book. 9.5/10.

Bleacher report: this book is the best!

Playing House by Ruby Lang 🏠

Playing House by Ruby Lang 🏠

Short but sweet! This quick read follows Oliver and Fay, two city planners and acquaintances that find themselves pretending to be a couple as they tour old homes in NYC. But pretending to be together comes far too easy, and soon enough they realize they stopped faking it a while ago.

Thank you @netgalley and @harlequinbooks #carinapress for this eARC in exchange for my honest review.

I enjoyed this cute little story! Fay was pretty neurotic and Oliver liked her for exactly who she was, they basically just nerded out together over their mutual love of historical buildings, which was adorable. There was a good amount of sizzle too! Some risqué hookups during an open house?? Scandal! I give this lighthearted read a 7.5/10 🏠 .

Say You Still Love Me by K.A. Tucker

Say You Still Love Me by K.A. Tucker. Another NOW vs THEN novel, and I love how these types of stories unfold. Each chapter goes back and forth between Kyle and Piper’s steamy summer together as camp counsellors 13 years earlier and their reuniting again today.

After reading and adoring the Simple Wild by K.A. Tucker I was eagerly awaiting the release of SYSLM, especially when I read about the summer camp romance theme. I wasn’t sure how I felt about Kyle at first, but the more you get to learn about him and what happened between these two characters you come back around. Piper is a badass boss woman start to finish. KA Tucker does such a good job of making the secondary characters as important as the main ones.

My only comment would be to give Christa more redeeming qualities, and to give either David or Mark a more unique name because I kept mentally interchanging the two and getting confused.

This was another home run heartfelt, romance for this Canadian author. I would absolutely recommend this summertime slow burn. *Best read at the cottage in the sun*. 8/10

🧡💛🧡💛 Love and Other Words by Christina Lauren 🧡💛🧡💛

Love and Other Words by @christinalauren 💛🧡💛🧡💛

Macy and Elliot were childhood friends, growing up together as neighbours in the summers at the cabin. Slowly falling in love and sharing their firsts with one another they realized they were soul mates. But with a horrible memory ending their time together, the two never spoke again. 11 years later, Elliot and Macy have a chance encounter seeing each other again for the first time. They finally share both their experiences of what tore them apart and try to see if they can ever be together again.

THIS BOOK!!! I love a good then and now story and this easily became my favourite book by Christina Lauren (maybe my fave book ever?!). It was so incredibly heartfelt, funny and romantic. It did hurt my heart a little and I’m sure I’m going to be thinking about this one for weeks to come.. but it was well worth it. Elliot and Macy are a match made in heaven. 9.5/10
